AlcoTrack vs Try Dry

Try Dry is the app behind Dry January, made by the charity that runs the challenge, and it is good at what a challenge needs: dry days, missions, badges, a quiz to see where you stand, emails to keep you going, and no price tag. AlcoTrack is for the other eleven months as well: a diary with a live blood alcohol estimate, your watch's nights next to your drinking nights, and a log that stays on the phone.

The short version

For a dry month, Try Dry does the job well, it is free without ads, and the badges land. It does not estimate your blood alcohol, and once the month is over its job is mostly done. AlcoTrack shows the number on the nights you do drink, counts the days you don't, and reads what your watch recorded either way. If you want a challenge, Try Dry. If you want a diary, AlcoTrack. Plenty of people want the first in January and the second from February.

Where Try Dry is better

  • Free with no ads and nothing to buy, from a charity.
  • Missions and badges built for a month-long challenge.
  • A drinking risk quiz and a coaching email programme.
  • Money and calories saved, front and centre.
  • iOS as well as Android.

Where AlcoTrack is better

  • A live blood alcohol estimate with the hour it reaches zero.
  • Sleep, resting heart rate and HRV from your watch next to the nights you drank.
  • An AI coach that answers from your own log.
  • No account; the log never leaves the phone.
  • Built for the whole year: presets, 80 cocktails, a morning check-in, 28 languages.

Every Try Dry cell comes from its Google Play listing, including the data safety section, and its App Store listing as they read on 25 October 2026. "Not offered" means neither mentions it. German advertising law asks a comparison to be objective and checkable, which is also simply the honest way to do it. If a cell has gone stale, tell me.

Which one

A dry month with badges: Try Dry. A diary for the rest of the year, with the blood alcohol curve and the watch data: AlcoTrack, whose calendar will count January too. They do not compete for the same evening.
